Upper School

At Ripplevale School class sizes are small with a high staff:pupil ratio to ensure each pupil receives the support and individual attention appropriate to their needs. We provide the opportunity for pupils to sit seven GCSE level examinations and many go on to further education. We have qualified specialist teachers in all main National Curriculum subjects. A number of teachers are dyslexia trained and all are trained in meeting the needs of pupils on the autistic spectrum.

Each class is taught Religious Education together with Personal Social and Health Education which contribute to the pupil’s spiritual and moral development.
We offer a wide range of sporting experiences within school and local community. Coaches from Charlton Athletic Football Club attend school on a weekly basis and games are organised at KS3 and KS4 level against local special and mainstream schools. Pupils are also able to experience rugby, basketball, cricket, tennis, table tennis and athletics.

Careers preparation is a priority at Ripplevale School. Career lessons are time tabled and a designated member of staff takes responsibility for all careers matters. Pupils in Years 10 and 11 are found local work experience placements. They also attend a local college on a weekly basis learning a variety of skills to help them make informed career choices.

A careers advisor from the local Connexions service attends school on a regular basis and liaises with the careers officer in each pupil’s home town to ensure continuity and on-going support for school leavers. The vast majority of our pupils go on to Colleges of Further Education and many go on to complete additional qualifications which have included success at degree level.
Our aim is for all of our pupils to leave Ripplevale School as independent and socially competent adults. We want them to be healthy, able to earn their living, gain job satisfaction, enjoy their leisure and to be eager to continue learning.
