The annex to our main site was opened in September 2008 and accommodates pupils aged from 7 years old who are statemented as being on the Autistic Spectrum with associated syndromes. Pupils are taught in small classes and each teacher is supported by at least one Learning Support Assistant. All education staff have received additional training in working with pupils on the autistic spectrum. The Lower School aims to provide a vibrant and purposeful learning environment with two main classrooms and smaller rooms available for Food Technology, ICT and Art. Classrooms are well equipped with laptop computers and interactive whiteboards. We understand that our pupils require a caring environment and dedicated attention from qualified and caring staff if they are to overcome the disadvantages which could prevent them from leading a fulfilling life. A co-operative atmosphere is fostered in the classroom where respect for self and each other is strongly emphasised. By providing a nurturing regime the school develops a pupil’s sense of well being and encourages them to relate to their peers and others within a socially structured and harmonious environment. |
